NAC on Thursdays? Conclusion?
First of all: The reallocation of the 10 m NAC from the first Wednesday to Thursday was agreed upon before the complete proposal was put forward.
The 10 m band is beyond the sphere where the Nordic VHF committees can operate!
I did not expect anybody to propose to move the Thursdays one week towards the end of the month as this in many cases (4 out of 5 this year) only moves the the 50 MHz Thursday from one side of the weekend to the other! In some other cases the last Thursday will get closer to the contest week end.
The general idea of the proposal is to make a logical and understandable scheme to last for a decade or so!
A general scheme cannot be tailored to the need of any individual interests. Then it would not last long.
That is also the reason why it is not recommendable to make a common Thursday for 28 + 50 + 70 MHz! The experience shows that within a few years we would have to split that common NAC again!
At present the 10 m NAC lasts 2 3 hours, the 50 MHz NAC 4 hours and the 70 MHz NAC could be 2 hours?
The reactions to the proposal have come mainly from Denmark and Sweden.
Only a few from Finland so far - and none from Norway.
My conclusion is that there is a clear majority to split up microwaves and 50 MHz on two different evenings.
There is a (smaller) majority to do it along the lines of the proposal, but with comments like:
- The Microwave NAC must move. There are more participants in the 50 MHz NAC!
- Move the Thursdays one week back away from the 24 hour contests on week ends.
- Make a common night for the 28, 50 and 70 MHz NACs.
- It is too early to make changes again!

As the conclusion to all these replies I feel it reasonable:
- To propose to the Nordic HF contest sections to move the 10 m NAC from the first Wednesday to the first Thursday of the month. Starting January 2004.
- To propose to the Nordic (+ UK) VHF committees to move the 50 MHz NAC to the second Thursday of the month. Starting January 2004.
- To propose to the Danish (and the UK?) VHF committee to start a 70 MHz NAC for 2 hours on the third Thursday of the month. Starting January 2004 - alternatively 2005.
